Osama Bin Laden Dead: Gaddafi Next?

The death of the world’s most wanted man at the hands of U.S special forces is having a profound impact across the globe. In America it is already one of the nation’s great historic moments. It may not change much in the management, such as it is, of Al-Qaeda;  already its organisation at the top has been profoundly compromised by drone attacks.

What this assassination will do is restore America’s confidence in itself. It avenges 9/11 in a way nothing else could. It brings closure to one of the darkest episodes in U.S history. Once again Americans will be able to take a deep breath, feel a weight lifted and start thinking straight again. There is a lot of thinking to do. The war on terror has been a triumph for Al-Qaeda and a burden on America and its allies. Iraq was a disaster, Afghanistan is never ending and Libya is in stalemate. Peace in the middle east between Israel and its enemies is as far off as ever.

All this may be about to change. America’s authority, while Bin Laden lived, taunting on his occasional videos, was diminished by the impotence of its power. The balance is now restored. America will again be heard when it speaks. It must speak wisely from now on.

Nowhere will ears be listening more sharply than in Tripoli. Hours ago the Gaddafi regime had a world propaganda coup over the missile strike which wrecked one of his homes, killed his youngest non-combatant son and  three of his grandchildren. Suddenly the balance has shifted. The clamour in the Pentagon to kill the second most hated leader, whom it holds responsible for the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, will now become irresistible. He is already a collateral target, but now he will be upgraded to an official, if covert, target, in part to avenge the Lockerbie victims and in part to conclude an ill starred military adventure in which the U.S is a reluctant participant.

Col Gaddafi will now know there is no escape, bar one. He must make peace to survive. How to do that, save face and stay in power will be vexing Libya’s ruling family each hour of every day. If the purpose  of this military mission by NATO is to save civilian lives, a way forward should not be difficult to find. If the hidden purpose is to rid the world of the Libyan leader, time on the Gaddafi clock may be running out. Fast.

I don’t even know how I ended up here, but I thought this post was good. I do not know who you are but definitely you’re going to a famous blogger if you aren’t already 😉 Cheers!

  3. This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

  4. How is it that just anybody can write a blog and get as popular as this? Its not like youve said anything incredibly impressive –more like youve painted a fairly picture about an issue that you know nothing about! I dont want to sound mean, right here. But do you definitely think that you can get away with adding some pretty pictures and not seriously say something?
