Expenses and the Constitution
Not only have we had the revelations of unimagined expenses paid with our money for MPs who had lost touch with reality, but we now have to watch their posturing to avoid doing the decent thing. Never mind what the rules were. We all know they were ridiculous. Sir Thomas Legg has told them what would be decent and fair. Up goes a collective squeal from lots of greedy snouts. At the root of all this is not rules, nor greed, nor dishonesty, nor self interest, although all are there in good measure. What is at the root is our ramshackle and out of date constitution.
