English Votes For English Laws.
December 16, 2014Once again we are floundering about because Cameron shot his mouth off and promised something he cannot deliver. William Hague’s statement of options to the House of Commons today amounted to a muddling fudge which few would find made any sense and which would further turn people off politics.
The only way to have English laws exclusively made by English MP’s is to have an English Parliament. Anything else will lead to all kinds of conflicts, muddles and confusions. And the simplest way to achieve that is to abolish the House of Lords and put in its place a United Kingdom Parliament, elected by proportional representation from all across the Kingdom, responsible for the currency, foreign policy, defence and and issues involving all four countries together which are not devolved. It would also act as the revising chamber for all the national parliaments. The Prime Minister of the UK would not be the same as the First Minister of England. The English Parliament could then devolve power to its Cities and Regions. It would bring the government back to the people, who might then start to take an interest in it, just as they have in Scotland.
